Biography

Angela Besharah (born August 12, 1977) is a Canadian actress, director, producer and model.


Early life

Angela Besharah was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to Karen and Kris Besharah. Her mother worked in international development and her father is an architect. She started ballet at the age of 4 and continued to dance in ballet and jazz til her early teens. Angela then took up the Double Bass, while her younger brother Benn played Cello, and was a member of the Ottawa Youth Orchestra by the age of 12. She later swapped the bass for the sax and played that til she graduated high school.

Angela landed her first acting role at the age of 15, the lead in the school play East of the Sun and West of the Moon. She continued to act in school productions until graduation.

At the age of 16, Angela was scouted to model in Milan, Italy. There she landed her first big campaign for United Colors of Benetton. Realizing the importance of staying in school Angela continued to model internationally but only on her summer breaks. She's worked in Japan, Germany, Taiwan, US & Canada.

Acting

Though enrolled at The University of Toronto for environmental science, Angela made the switch to the University College Drama Program (UCDP) in her second year. There she received excellent training and starred in numerous productions including Ophelia in Hamlet and an old Newfoundland bag lady version of Gower in Pericles, Prince of Tyre. Her Toronto theatre debut came as Corey in Theatre Passe Muraille's Little Dragon which garnered her great reviews.

Angela was first put on film in 1999 as the Blonde Beauty in a music video directed by Sloan's Chris Murphy for The Local Rabbits. She started auditioning for film & TV upon graduation in 2001. She was first cast on Mutant X , and more recently Angela just finished filming the role of Ann Gargan (Joe Kennedy Sr's niece) in the upcoming mini-series for the History Channel - The Kennedys.

Directing

Angela directed her first original play Just Another Day on the Hunt in 2000 as part of the University of Toronto Drama Festival for which was awarded Best Production & Best Direction by Robert Crew. She has since gone on to direct 5 more original plays to rave reviews; 2002's The Churkendoose was voted by the Toronto Star as a top 10 Best Bet, then in 2005 The Way was voted by the Toronto Star as a Producer's Pick and Mad 5/Still Alive was given a 4 star review from Eye Magazine. Most recently in 2009 The Keeper's Secret also received a 4 star review from Eye Magazine "You can’t help feeling like you’re seeing the future of theatre."

In 2009 Angela directed her first documentaries Taking IT Global and Fu-Gen Theatre Company as part of the Get Involved! series for TVO.

In January 2010, Angela wrote, produced and directed her first short film Now & Then that will have it's first screening as part of the 7th Annual San Diego International Children's Festival .

Producing

Angela has produced 3 original plays and just finished producing the short film The Evening News starring the great David Fox.
